London plans ‘Europe’s highest roof-garden’

London: Henderson Global Investors have submitted a planning application to build a new office tower in the City of London that would feature a landscaped roof garden.

The 24-storey tower, designed by Foster and Partners, will rise to a height of 115m on the site of Ellerman House at 12-20 Camomile Street, in the heart of the Square Mile’s high-rise district. The site sits opposite Heron Tower and 1Heron Plaza (which was granted planning consent earlier in the week), promising to create a new collection of skyscrapers on the northern edge of the City cluster. It will provide 215,000sq ft of office accommodation as well as retail at street level and a new library to replace that currently on the site.

One of the main features of the tower is a landscaped 9,243sq ft roof-garden for the benefit of tenants, which Henderson claims will be the highest in Europe.

Current leases at Ellerman House expire in June 2005, which completion of the new tower expected in 2008.
