Property Spy: the Sky’s the Limit!

Back in November, our new leader, Boris, announced a plan to create 2012 new patches of land to grow vegetables on in time for the London Olympic games. The slightly quirkier part of his plan is to convert existing rooftops, turning London into a more sustainable city. Not a bad idea, it turns out: the rooftops across London could hold new green spaces about 24 times the size of Richmond park. Which should help feed all the hungry athletes.

Most of this is going to be created through the use of government buildings – but encouragement is falling on Londoners themselves to get in on the action.

One company that may be able to help in this gallant battle is the experts at Urban Roof Gardens, who provide a bespoke consultancy for turning your dull and dismal roof into a mini paradise (with or without vegetables).
Alternatively, for those on a budget, you can buy a copy of Which?gardening (three copies for £3 plus free vegetable guide) to steer you though the difficulties of grow-bags. The choice, as ever, is yours. Personally, though, we’re rooting for the experts.
